![]() Add the fact that the game is fairly long - 12 levels + an additional one for the remastered version, which also unlocks a new costume and tools - you get a very lengthy but fun game that I think everyone will enjoy. Said points are only used to gain the marks which are used for unlocking upgrades, like additional executions and tools. The game was essentially a 2D action-platformer but in a way I would say "it's more like a Puzzle game with action elements": even if our nameless ninja can kill and has a lot of moves to use the levels are made in a way that you have to find the solution without making too much noise or die and the final result would give you points according to how you played. Its art style was and still is very good to look at, very reminiscent of Samurai Jack and similar, and the setting is a sort of modern world with still bits and pieces of antiquity and more. Mark of the Ninja was originally released in 2012 and it was a very good stealth-based game with very interesting mechanics and a rather intriguing story that didn't want to be imposed and instead was more of a background thing, which made the game easier to follow. Then a few days ago I saw this game on discount and I thought "hey, I remember this game being good, I'll play it again! Oh, it's a remaster too". Then a I bought the original game years ago on the pc and had a pretty good time, despite needing a controller to be able to play properly. This is all very interesting stuff, but I recommend looking at some of it after beating the game at least once so nothing’s spoiled for you.I bought the original game years ago on the pc and had a pretty good time, despite needing a controller to be able to play properly. Commentary – In an optional menu, you can unlock and look over commentary by the creators on what went on behind the scenes. They’re very useful if you’re trying to get all the level challenges. Attire – There are unlockable outfits you can wear, each with its own plus and negatives. There’s also a New Game + mode, making everything much harder. The scroll-test rooms are very fun, and the scrolls each have haikus and background story for the game, so they’re worth getting. If you get them all the level is gold and you get bragging rights for being so cool. But it was good most of the time, and even in most of those tricky times I was able to strategize a way out of the situation.Ĭhallenges/Replayability – Each level has 3 scrolls, one scroll-test room, and 3 optional objectives. ![]() Once in a blue moon the checkpoint would be in an awkward place (like next to a dog who’s in the progress of sniffing you, or within ! of a baddie), so it’s not infallible. ![]() If you screw up a stealth mission, for example, you can go back to the last checkpoint quickly in the menu and it doesn’t take you that far back. I mean, what else do you expect from a game called Mark of the Ninja? What do they think they’ll find? Crafting? Farming? Visual novel romance? Screwing up isn’t painful – Some games leave you reeling if you do a small screw up in a level, but Mark of the Ninja: Remastered does a really good job using checkpoints. If you think killing foe after foe with a vast array of ninja techniques and tools throughout a level will bore you, you probably shouldn’t play ninja games. It seems most of the criticism is about the repetition, but I guess this depends on taste. I was surprised to see a few negative reviews on the steam page. Yes, it’s cartoony, but the game world is serious and mature. The game is helped by its smooth animation and creative design. The game gives you plenty of tools to dispatch your foes so your job is never boring. There’s a delicious thrill in lurking around in the dark and stealthily dispatching enemies in creative and sneaky ways. Out of all the ninja games out there, this is one of the best. I played this when it was released and just recently revisited it. Finish the main story to unlock a New Game Plus mode with even more options and challenges. Will you be an unknown, invisible ghost, or a brutal, silent assassin? Upgrade new tools and techniques that suit your playstyle and complete optional objectives to unlock entirely new ways to approach the game. Marked with cursed tattoos giving you heightened senses, every situation presents you with options. You must be silent, agile and clever to outwit your opponents in a world of gorgeous scenery and flowing animation. In Mark of the Ninja, you’ll know what it is to truly be a ninja.
